Change your Soldier of Fortune II crosshair with four settings: cg_drawCrosshair picks the style (1 to 10, or 0 for none), cg_crosshairSize sets the size in pixels, cg_crosshairRGBA sets the colour and transparency, and cg_crosshairGrow decides whether it expands when you fire. Type them in the console, for example /cg_crosshairRGBA "0,1,0,1" for a solid green crosshair.

Pick a style
SoF2 has ten crosshair shapes, numbered 1 to 10. The default is 4. The quickest way to choose is to try them in a game:
- Join a server or start a local game, so you can see the crosshair against a real map.
- Open the console with ~.
- Try each style: type
/cg_drawCrosshair 1, close the console, look at it, then try 2, 3 and so on. - Keep the one you like and save it in your config, as shown at the end.
cg_drawCrosshair 0 hides the crosshair completely, which some players use for screenshots and videos.
Colour and transparency
cg_crosshairRGBA takes four numbers between 0 and 1, separated by commas: red, green, blue and alpha (opacity). Put the value in quotes.
| Colour | Value |
|---|---|
| White (default) | "1,1,1,1" |
| Green | "0,1,0,1" |
| Yellow | "1,1,0,1" |
| Cyan | "0,1,1,1" |
| Magenta | "1,0,1,1" |
| Red | "1,0,0,1" |
| White, half see-through | "1,1,1,0.5" |
SoF2’s maps are full of browns, greys and greens, so bright colours that rarely appear in the world, such as cyan, magenta or yellow, are the easiest to see. Pure green can disappear against grass and jungle maps.
The teammate colour
When your crosshair is over a teammate, it changes to cg_crosshairFriendRGBA, which is red by default. That warns you not to shoot. If you use a red crosshair yourself, change the teammate colour so you can still tell the difference, for example to blue: /cg_crosshairFriendRGBA "0,0.5,1,1".
Size and the growing crosshair
cg_crosshairSize is in pixels and defaults to 24. Smaller crosshairs (16 to 20) cover less of your target, which helps at range. Larger ones are easier to find in a hectic fight. On a high-resolution screen, you may want a little larger than the default.
With cg_crosshairGrow 1, the crosshair expands as you fire and move, showing how accurate your next shot will be. It’s useful while you learn each weapon’s spread. Set it to 0 for a crosshair that never changes size.
Off-centre crosshair
cg_crosshairX and cg_crosshairY move the crosshair away from the centre of the screen, in pixels. Leave both at 0. They’re only useful if your crosshair appears off-centre because of an unusual screen setup.
Names under the crosshair
With cg_drawCrosshairNames 1, the name of the player you’re aiming at appears on screen. It helps you tell friend from enemy at a distance and learn who you’re up against. Keep it on.
Cycle crosshairs with one key
To flick between your favourite styles in game, set up a cycle with vstr:
set ch1 "cg_drawCrosshair 1; set chnext vstr ch2"
set ch2 "cg_drawCrosshair 4; set chnext vstr ch3"
set ch3 "cg_drawCrosshair 7; set chnext vstr ch1"
set chnext "vstr ch1"
bind F8 "vstr chnext"
Each press of F8 moves to the next style. Change the numbers to the styles you like.
Save it in your config
// Crosshair
seta cg_drawCrosshair "4"
seta cg_crosshairSize "20"
seta cg_crosshairRGBA "0,1,1,1"
seta cg_crosshairFriendRGBA "1,0,0,1"
seta cg_crosshairGrow "0"
seta cg_drawCrosshairNames "1"
Add it to autoexec.cfg in your base folder. More settings to put in the same file are in best SoF2 settings and HUD settings.
